Autumn has really set in with the leaves changing and the weather too!

The school photographers have been in school this week and it was great to see them interact with the children to get them smiling and feeling natural for the cameras! Hopefully there are lots of lovely shots of your child - these will be sent home in due course with further details on how to order.

This morning we held our first Y6/Reception parent and buddy coffee morning. The event was a huge success and we had lots of positive comments from parents, children and staff. It was great to see the children and parents getting to know each other. The Year 6 always enjoy spending time with their buddies and it is great to see them taking on that role of responsibility. Thank you to all the parents who attended and helped to make the event such a successful one.

Our trip to France is coming up next week 3rd – 6th October and we are very excited about the visit. We are hoping to post some photos and keep everyone updated via the website. Mrs Cox, Mrs Slater, Mr Collier and I are going with the children. Miss Whittingham and Miss Jennings will be teaching Y5 and the remaining Y6. Mr Sproston will be the point of contact in school while I am away and I will be in regular contact with him during the trip.

The 7th October is when Y6 are holding their class charity event – Macmillan Coffee morning. Please pop in for cakes and refreshments on 7th October from 10am. In the afternoon on 7th October we are having an open afternoon from 2pm for parents to have guided tours of the school to see the changes and improvements that have been made. We were pleased to see photos and an article in the Knutsford Guardian (21st September issue) all about our new classrooms and outdoor play area.

The cross-country team were hugely successful at the cluster cross country event – all forty children who took part tried their absolute best and represented the school proudly. We had three children who came first in their races last week Charlie (Y3/4) & Lucie, Zach (Y5/6) and this week a further two children won their races – Zach (Y5/Y6 Event) and Charlie (Y3/4 Event).

Thank you to Reception parents for helping us to ensure our children make a smooth start to the school day. The children are developing their independence and self-organisation skills and they are really coming on well. They have settled so well into the school routine; I love going into the Reception classroom, seeing the children playing and learning together in their new space, both indoors and outside.

The PTA met on Tuesday evening for the AGM. There was a great turnout; thank you to everyone who came along and welcome to the new Reception parents who attended. I was able to thank the PTA on everyone’s behalf for providing the funding for the School Council led project of the new play equipment. It has been fully utilised everyday (except wet breaks!) by all classes and feedback has been very positive.

Parent Councillors – we now have Parent Councillors for Reception, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 – thank you to parents who have put themselves forward for this role; there are still vacancies for Year 1,

Year 5 and Year 6. If you are interested please contact the school office admin@hermitage.cheshire.sch.uk

We also have vacancies for two Parent Governors. A paper copy of the letter and nomination form has been sent out this week. Please let Laura Bevan in the office know if you didn’t receive a form. The closing date for Parent Governor Nominations is 7th October. Please return completed signed forms to the school office marked for attention of Clerk to Governors.

Don’t forget to check the online calendar and class pages on our school website for further details of events. As always, any questions, queries or suggestions please email or call the office.

With thanks

Helen Ross
