Week Beginning 3rd November
Date: 18th Nov 2014 @ 8:21am
Welcome back to school after the half term break!
This half term is set to be really busy and exciting in the lead up to Christmas.
This week the children in classes Y1 to Y6 have taken part in an assembly about commemorating WWI and enjoyed a WWI workshop led by Mr Cope who is a keen historian and has worked with our school before. The children were very engaged and asked many really intuitive questions about the original WWI artefacts. There were many opportunities for role play and for trying out different activities linked to WWI. Look out for photographs on the school website.
Elsewhere in the newsletter you will see that we have two very busy Fridays ahead. Next week (14th) is Children in Need Day hosted by our School Council and the following Friday (21st) is dress down day for the PTFA donations for the Christmas Fair. I know that we are asking for support from you for two consecutive Fridays but both events are for a very good cause. The children and staff really appreciate whatever you are able to donate – thank you.
The work of the school continues with pace. All staff have undertaken training by attending INSET workshops organised by our local cluster group. These included guided reading, observing lessons, pupil book scrutiny, mathematics, Autism Spectrum Condition and speech and language. In addition, several teaching staff have been working with a wider cluster of schools to share good practice in Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education, Early Years Foundation Stage, Assessment and also Visible Pupil Progress. This work will continue all year and contributes to ensuring that Hermitage pupils receive the best possible education.
