Hermitage in the Community

Hermitage in the Community

We support our community in a variety of ways, including:

  • Litter picks throughout the year.
  • Grounds Day (Helping maintain our school grounds)
  • PCSO Assembly visits and workshops.
  • High-School Students taking part in work experience.
  • Bikeability offered to Y4 and Y5 children.
  • The Skills Network has provided free training to adults in our community.
  • Bridge The Gap community events bringing together people from different generations.
  • A Summer Fair organised by our supportive PTA.
  • Using the community in our curriculum wherever possible: road safety discussions, geography fieldwork (River Dane), farming and land use, the Holmes Chapel Fire history topic, our local churches and sketching in the community.

Each class also raises money for a chosen charity every year.  In the year 2019-2020, we will be raising money for:

YR: Children in Need

Y1 - Be Seen in Green (Manchester Children's Hospital)

Y2 - RSPB (Big Garden Bird Watch)

Y3 - Sport Relief

Y4 - Christmas Jumper Day (Act of Kindness)

Y5 - Read For Good/World Book Day

Y6 - Macmillan Coffee Morning

In addition, we sell poppies for The British Legion and hold a special Remembrance Day Service to remember our war heroes. Our School Council organise events to raise money for Children In Need and we host Fairtrade breakfasts during Fairtrade Fortnight.

Our school choir and orchestra play at a variety of local events throughout the year. These include Women's Institute, Holmes Chapel Christmas Market, Education Sunday, Capesthorne Christmas Market and the local village fair.
